Tigers place Zumaya, Willis on disabled list

The Detroit Tigers have placed oft-injured reliever Joel Zumaya on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27 with a sore right shoulder.

The team on Sunday also placed left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis on the 15-day disabled list with an anxiety disorder and returned the contract of left-handed pitcher Kyle Bloom to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland had said Thursday that Zumaya was unlikely to start the season in Detroit. The right-handed pitcher was considered for the closers job but felt soreness after an appearance on March 2 against Florida Southern College.

Madoff Citi Field seats soon could be on market

The prime Citi Field seats of Bernard Madoff's company could soon be available.

The New York Mets season tickets, just behind home plate, will likely be resold by the trustee for Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.

'We have no intention of not monetizing them and letting them go unused,' trustee Irving H. Picard said Saturday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. 'When we have something to announce, we will do so.'

Mets executive vice president David Howard said the seats were paid for and were in either the first or second row behind home plate, a section known as Delta Club Platinum. They list for $695 each for opening day on April 13 and June interleague games against the New York Yankees, all classified as platinum by the Mets.

Teixeira homers as Yankees top Braves

Mark Teixeira is fitting in quite nicely with the New York Yankees.

The first baseman, who signed an eight-year deal worth $180 million in the offseason, hit his second spring home run and raised his Grapefruit League average to .391 as the Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on Saturday.

Teixeira was 2-for-2 and walked against Braves starter Jair Jurrjens.

Atlanta catcher Brian McCann had to leave in the first after being struck on the right ring finger by a foul tip by Teixeira, but said it was just a bruise.
