When trying out for an MLB team, are you also trying out for all the minor league teams of that organization?

I was just curious. I am going to the Tampa Rays tryout this June. I was just curious if I was trying out for the whole organization or just the pro team.

IF THEY WANT YOU THEY WILL KEEP YOU. ANY PLACE THEY CAN.

You will be trying out for the whole organization and they will put you wherever they think you belong. Good Luck

Any team associated with the Rays is a “pro team”. You are trying out for a spot in the Tampa Bay Rays organization as a whole, not just the MLB club. The odds of you making the big club from an open tryout are incredibly slim, chances are if you were worthy of being in the big leagues you would already have been drafted or signed. If they do see some talent in you, chances are you will go to either a short season rookie league or their lower A ball team.

The tryout of for the organization, not the MLB team.

Look at the movie “The Rookie.” The story about Jim Morris. He tried out for the Rays (Then D-Rays) and yet had to go through the minors just to get to the bench in the pro club.
Its because you could be amazing, but they want you to prove it in the farm system first.

Good Luck at the tryout.

I’m pretty sure at first you are trying out for just the minors, but subsequently the whole pro team. Usually when someone makes it via a tryout, they are signed to a minor league contract, before they can ever be called up to the majors. The reason for this is that if they do select you, they want to make sure they made the right decision, without effecting the MLB club. And if you do well enough in the minors, you may get a call-up.

I wish you good luck though. The Rays are a very talented and young ball club, with many many prospects, and the first overall pick in this years draft. So making it on the Rays may be more difficult then most other ball clubs.

May I ask your name, just in case you do ever become rich and famous in the MLB? lol

Absolutely, yes. It’s a package deal – the MLB team is just the cream of the crop.

They won’t put you straight into the majors if that’s what you are asking so yeah you are trying out to maybe get a spot in A ball.
